Terms of Service

Last updated: May 17, 2026

The deal

Hibernate is a service that locks you out of your own Instagram account for a period you choose, by changing your account’s login credentials and holding them until your timer ends. By using Hibernate, you’re agreeing to these Terms with Hibernation Labs LLC, a Delaware limited liability company (“we,” “us,” or “Hibernate”).

If you don’t agree with any part of these Terms, don’t use the service. The product is unusual; the Terms reflect that. Read them.

Who can use Hibernate

You must be at least 18 years old to use Hibernate.

You also need to own the Instagram account you want to hibernate. Don’t use Hibernate to lock anyone else out of their account.

What the service does, exactly

  1. You pay $2.99 and pick a duration.
  2. We generate a new email alias on a domain we control and a strong random password.
  3. You update your Instagram account to use that email and password. We catch the verification code Instagram sends to the alias and show it to you during setup.
  4. You log out of Instagram.
  5. When your timer ends, we email the password to the address you registered with (and to any backup addresses you added).

The no-take-backs clause

Hibernate only works because we don’t let you back in early. By starting a detox, you agree that:

  • No refunds.Payment is final at checkout. Once a detox has started, the $2.99 is not refundable for any reason, including changing your mind, regretting the duration, or needing access “just this once.”
  • No early release. We will not give you the password before your timer ends, regardless of what you tell us. This applies even if you ask nicely, even if you say it’s an emergency, and even if you threaten to charge back the payment.
  • No customer-service workaround. Our support team cannot release passwords early. This isn’t a policy they can override; it’s how the product is built.

The single exception is the Emergency Unlock described below.

Emergency Unlock

If you genuinely need your account back before your timer ends, you can purchase a one-time Emergency Unlock for $50. Once you pay, we’ll release your password to your registered email.

The price is intentionally high. It exists so you have an option in a real emergency, not so you can casually undo your own decision.

Waiver of EU/UK 14-day withdrawal right

If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a digital-service contract. Because Hibernate begins providing the service immediately (we generate your credentials at checkout), we ask you to expressly waive that right when you pay.

By starting a detox you acknowledge that performance begins immediately, you consent to that, and you accept that you will lose your right of withdrawal once performance has begun.

Your real email is your responsibility

We release your Instagram password to the email address(es) you give us. If you lose access to your real email, change providers without updating us, or otherwise become unreachable at every email you registered, we cannot deliver the password to you.

You can add multiple backup emails in your dashboard. We strongly recommend doing so. Keeping your email contacts accurate is your responsibility, not ours.

Use at your own risk

You are responsible for understanding the consequences of locking yourself out of your Instagram account. That includes:

  • Missing messages, posts, or business inquiries.
  • Being unable to use Instagram login on third-party apps that depend on it.
  • Anything Instagram itself does to your account during the hibernation period — including suspension, restriction, or policy actions — for reasons unrelated to Hibernate.

Hibernate does not control Instagram. We can’t guarantee that Instagram will accept the email alias, that the verification flow will work for your specific account, or that Instagram won’t change their settings interface in ways that break our setup wizard. We’ll do our best to keep it working. We can’t promise it will.

Account and security

You are responsible for keeping your Hibernate login credentials secure. Don’t share your account. Tell us immediately at hello@usehibernate.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Hibernate to lock anyone else out of an account.
  • Use Hibernate for any illegal purpose.
  • Attempt to circumvent the lockout (e.g. exploiting bugs to retrieve passwords early). We may terminate your account without refund if you do.
  • Use automated means to access the service in ways that disrupt it.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time by emailing hello@usehibernate.com. If you delete your account during an active detox, we will release the Instagram password to your registered email immediately as part of the deletion. After release, your data is removed per our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.

Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don’t warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular outcome (such as “more focus” or “less screen time”).

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hibernation Labs LLC and its officers, employees, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you actually paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain liability limits; where that’s the case, the above applies to the maximum extent permitted by your local law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Hibernation Labs LLC harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We’ll post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we’ll notify active users by email. Continuing to use the service after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.
